Communications Test Design Inc., a global provider of repair and logistics services to the communications industry, has leased 72,558 square feet of distribution space in the Indian River Distribution Center (IRDC) in Chesapeake. IRDC is 100 percent leased. It plans to renovate and upgrade the property into an operation that will employ about 50 people with an average salary of $40,000. CTDI is headquartered in West Chester, PA and has 45 global facilities and 5,000 employees. Congratulations to Cetan Corp. which achieved a ranking of No. 119 on the 2011 Inc. Magazine’s Inc. 500 list! Inc. 500 recognized the fastest-growing companies in the country that are privately held, independent and had revenues of least $2 million in 2010. Brad Scott, President, Cetan Corp., founded the company in 2007 and revenues have grown 2,275 percent to $7.2 million. Carolina Cupcakery Competes on Food Network's Cupcake Wars

Dawn Eskins, owner of Carolina Cupcakery, and her daughter, Kyndall, competed in the popular show, the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, which aired on Sep. 11th. Carolina Cupcakery made it the finals but wasn’t chosen as the overall winner. The Carolina Cupcakery recently won a Virginian Pilot’s "Best of” contest. In 2007, the Carolina Cupcakery opened its first cupcake bakery in Chesapeake’s Edinburgh area and has grown to two locations in Norfolk’s Ghent neighborhood and its newest location—the Old Dominion University’s Webb Center. www.carolinacupcakery.com.

Chesapeake Ranked No. 21 on America's 50 Best Cities |
Bloomberg and Businessweek.com published its first America's Best Cities ranking and Chesapeake made the list at No. 21. The magazine referenced Chesapeake's low unemploymnet, highly ranked schools, broad acres of parks, and great air quality. Other Virginia cities came in at Virginia Beach No. 8 and Arlington, VA No. 2. Raleigh, NC was named the No. 1 city on the list. Check out the 16 criteria and complete list at their website.

The Public Technology Institute has named Chesapeake one of seven cities nationally for the Local Government Award Program – Harnessing the Power of Civic Media. The City’s Facebook Page, hosted by the Information Technology Department, stood out for the role social media played in the Fun Forest Rebuild Project.

City Maintains Prior Bond Ratings
All three of the major bond rating agencies - Fitch, Moody's and Standard & Poor's - have reconfirmed their prior ratings for the City's General Obligation Bonds. Additionally, each of the agencies gave Chesapeake a, "stable outlook" for the future. The City currently holds a "AAA" rating from Fitch, a "Aa1" rating from Moody's, and a "AA+" rating from Standard & Poor's. Each of the rating agencies noted Chesapeake's strong fiscal management policies and reserves when reaffirming the City's existing ratings.
