Small, Women and Minority-Owned Business Programs
The City of Chesapeake’s Small, Women and Minority-Owned (SWaM) Business Program provides education, resources and opportunities for small business owners. Through partnerships with the Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Development Center and the City’s procurement division, Chesapeake’s Small Business Development Program helps businesses:
- Identify and provide educational and financial resources for training
- Assists in setting up meetings with various resources (state/local agencies, financing partners, business assistance/consultants)
- Coordinate with City’s procurement division and specialists from each department to determine what goods and services are needed
- Leverage state’s SWaM database and the Commissioner of Revenue’s licensed business database to target businesses who will benefit from the program
- Develop incentive and training scholarship program requirements
- Partner with local, state and federal agencies to offer educational and training workshops
